ஆதி3த்ய ஹ்ருத3யம்
नमस्सवित्रे जगदेक चक्षुसे
जगत्प्रसूति स्थिति नाशहेतवे
त्रयीमयाय त्रिगुणात्म धारिणे
विरिञ्चि नारायण शङ्करात्मने
நமஸ்ஸவித்ரே ஜக3தே3க சக்ஷுஸே
ஜக3த்ப்ரஸூதி ஸ்தி2தி நாஶஹேதவே
த்ரயீமயாய த்ரிகு3ணாத்ம தா4ரிணே
விரிஞ்சி நாராயண ஶங்கராத்மனே
Salutation Surya, the only eye of the world, the cause of the birth, sustenance and destruction of the world; The repository of the three forms, the protector of the three gunas in the self, O Brahma, Vishnu and Sankara.
ततो युद्ध परिश्रान्तं समरे चिन्तया स्थितम् ।
रावणं चाग्रतो दृष्ट्वा युद्धाय समुपस्थितम् ॥ 1 ॥
ததோ யுத்3த4 பரிஶ்ரான்தம் ஸமரே சின்தயா ஸ்தி2தம் ।
ராவணம் சாக்3ரதோ த்3ருஷ்ட்வா யுத்3தா4ய ஸமுபஸ்தி2தம் ॥ 1 ॥
दैवतैश्च समागम्य द्रष्टुमभ्यागतो रणम् ।
उपागम्या-ब्रवीद्रामं अगस्त्यो भगवान् ऋषिः ॥ 2 ॥
தை3வதைஶ்ச ஸமாக3ம்ய த்3ரஷ்டுமப்4யாக3தோ ரணம் ।
உபாக3ம்யா-ப்3ரவீத்3ராமம் அக3ஸ்த்யோ ப4க3வான் ருஷி: ॥ 2 ॥
The great God like sage Agasthya,
Who has come along with other Gods to see the war,
Seeing the tired and thought filled Ravana,
Approached Lord Rama, who is ready for the war and told.
राम राम महाबाहो शृणु गुह्यं सनातनम् ।
येन सर्वानरीन् वत्स समरे विजयिष्यसि ॥ 3 ॥
ராம ராம மஹாபா3ஹோ ஶ்ருணு கு3ஹ்யம் ஸனாதனம் ।
யேன ஸர்வானரீன் வத்ஸ ஸமரே விஜயிஷ்யஸி ॥ 3 ॥
Hey Rama, Hey dear Rama, be pleased to hear,
That which is secret and perennial,
By reciting which, son,
You would be victorious in war.
आदित्य हृदयं पुण्यं सर्वशत्रु विनाशनम् ।
जयावहं जपेन्नित्यं अक्षय्यं परमं शिवम् ॥ 4 ॥
ஆதி3த்ய ஹ்ருத3யம் புண்யம் ஸர்வஶத்ரு வினாஶனம் ।
ஜயாவஹம் ஜபேன்னித்யம் அக்ஷய்யம் பரமம் ஶிவம் ॥ 4 ॥
This is the prayer called “the heart of the sun”.
Which is holy, destroys all enemies,
Which leads to victory,
And by reciting which daily,
Leads you to perennial state of good.
सर्वमङ्गल माङ्गल्यं सर्व पाप प्रणाशनम् ।
चिन्ताशोक प्रशमनं आयुर्वर्धन मुत्तमम् ॥ 5 ॥
ஸர்வமங்க3ல மாங்க3ல்யம் ஸர்வ பாப ப்ரணாஶனம் ।
சின்தாஶோக ப்ரஶமனம் ஆயுர்வர்த4ன முத்தமம் ॥ 5 ॥
This prayer great gives all that is good,
Destroys all sins committed,
Acts as an antidote for sorrow and thought,
And also leads to very long life.
रश्मिमन्तं समुद्यन्तं देवासुर नमस्कृतम् ।
पूजयस्व विवस्वन्तं भास्करं भुवनेश्वरम् ॥ 6 ॥
ரஶ்மிமன்தம் ஸமுத்3யன்தம் தே3வாஸுர நமஸ்க்ருதம் ।
பூஜயஸ்வ விவஸ்வன்தம் பா4ஸ்கரம் பு4வனேஶ்வரம் ॥ 6 ॥
Offer prayers to the Great Sun God,
Who is the owner of rays,
Who rises up from below,
Who is worshipped by devas and asuras,
And who is worshipped by every one of the universe.
सर्वदेवात्मको ह्येष तेजस्वी रश्मिभावनः ।
एष देवासुर गणान् लोकान् पाति गभस्तिभिः ॥ 7 ॥
ஸர்வதே3வாத்மகோ ஹ்யேஷ தேஜஸ்வீ ரஶ்மிபா4வன: ।
ஏஷ தே3வாஸுர க3ணான் லோகான் பாதி க3ப4ஸ்திபி4: ॥ 7 ॥
He has within him all the devas,
He is the brightest among the bright,
He runs the whole world by his rays,
And protects all the worlds of Devas and Asuras,
By his great Rays.
एष ब्रह्मा च विष्णुश्च शिवः स्कन्दः प्रजापतिः ।
महेन्द्रो धनदः कालो यमः सोमो ह्यपां पतिः ॥ 8 ॥
ஏஷ ப்3ரஹ்மா ச விஷ்ணுஶ்ச ஶிவ: ஸ்கன்த:3 ப்ரஜாபதி: ।
மஹேன்த்3ரோ த4னத:3 காலோ யம: ஸோமோ ஹ்யபாம் பதி: ॥ 8 ॥
The one who himself is the essence of Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Skanda(Kumara- son of God Shiva), Prajapathi (Lord of born beings)
Mahendra (King of the Devas), Kubera (Dhanadaha, In charge of the wealth), Kala (eternal time), Yama (the Lord of death), Chandra (Soma, the moon God), The in charge of the waters (Varuna or Hyapampathi)
पितरो वसवः साध्या ह्यश्विनौ मरुतो मनुः ।
वायुर्वह्निः प्रजाप्राणः ऋतुकर्ता प्रभाकरः ॥ 9 ॥
பிதரோ வஸவ: ஸாத்4யா ஹ்யஶ்வினௌ மருதோ மனு: ।
வாயுர்வஹ்னி: ப்ரஜாப்ராண: ருதுகர்தா ப்ரபா4கர: ॥ 9 ॥
The one who is indeed the Pitaro (Ancestral manes), eight Vasava’s (givers of treasures), Sandhyas (semidivine yoginis), Ashwini devas (the physicians of celestials), Marutas (deities of storm), Manu (progenitor of human race)
Vayu (God of wind), Agni (God of fire), Prajaprana (maker of the vital air of sustenance in living beings), Ruthukartha (maker of seasons), Prabhakara (the giver of the light)
आदित्यः सविता सूर्यः खगः पूषा गभस्तिमान् ।
सुवर्णसदृशो भानुः हिरण्यरेता दिवाकरः ॥ 10 ॥
ஆதி3த்ய: ஸவிதா ஸூர்ய: க2க:3 பூஷா க3ப4ஸ்திமான் ।
ஸுவர்ணஸத்3ருஶோ பா4னு: ஹிரண்யரேதா தி3வாகர: ॥ 1௦ ॥
The one who is Aditya (Son of Aditi), the creator of universe, Surya (the inspirer of actions of the beings), Khaga (wanderer in sky), Pusha (the one who sustains the earth by initiating rains), the one with rays. O the Lord, who radiates like gold, the luminous one, the one who contains the generative fluid as gold, the Divakara (maker of the day)
हरिदश्वः सहस्रार्चिः सप्तसप्ति-र्मरीचिमान् ।
तिमिरोन्मथनः शम्भुः त्वष्टा मार्ताण्डकोंऽशुमान् ॥ 11 ॥
ஹரித3ஶ்வ: ஸஹஸ்ரார்சி: ஸப்தஸப்தி-ர்மரீசிமான் ।
திமிரோன்மத2ன: ஶம்பு4: த்வஷ்டா மார்தாண்ட3கோம்ஶுமான் ॥ 11 ॥
With the horses that are in greenish colour, the one radiating with thousand rays, who has seven horses and with great rays
The remover of darkness, bestower of auspiciousness, mitigator of sufferings, who is Marthanda, the reinfuser of creation, the omnipresent as his rays that penetrate everywhere
हिरण्यगर्भः शिशिरः तपनो भास्करो रविः ।
अग्निगर्भोऽदितेः पुत्रः शङ्खः शिशिरनाशनः ॥ 12 ॥
ஹிரண்யக3ர்ப:4 ஶிஶிர: தபனோ பா4ஸ்கரோ ரவி: ।
அக்3னிக3ர்போ4தி3தே: புத்ர: ஶங்க:2 ஶிஶிரனாஶன: ॥ 12 ॥
The primordial one who became the Trinity, the remover of tapa or affliction, who brings warmth, the maker of the day and the one praised by all. O the one who have fire in his womb, the son of Aditi, the calming one and the remover of snow
व्योमनाथ स्तमोभेदी ऋग्यजुःसाम-पारगः ।
घनावृष्टि रपां मित्रः विन्ध्यवीथी प्लवङ्गमः ॥ 13 ॥
வ்யோமனாத2 ஸ்தமோபே4தீ3 ருக்3யஜு:ஸாம-பாரக:3 ।
க4னாவ்ருஷ்டி ரபாம் மித்ர: வின்த்4யவீதீ2 ப்லவங்க3ம: ॥ 13 ॥
O The Lord of aether, dispeller of Rahu or darkness, the one with par excellence in Vedas. By whom the great rains dispense, a friend to the waters (as the rays bring life and purifies waters), The one who move fast in the sky.
आतपी मण्डली मृत्युः पिङ्गलः सर्वतापनः ।
कविर्विश्वो महातेजा रक्तः सर्वभवोद्भवः ॥ 14 ॥
ஆதபீ மண்ட3லீ ம்ருத்யு: பிங்க3ல்த:3 ஸர்வதாபன: ।
கவிர்விஶ்வோ மஹாதேஜா ரக்த: ஸர்வப4வோத்3ப4வ: ॥ 14 ॥
Who is with his forms that are intensely absorbed, inflictor of death to the wicked, who is red in colour, desired by all the beings. The one who is a great scholar, runs the worlds with great radiance, who affectionate all and acts as the starting place to the next generation or action
नक्षत्र ग्रह ताराणां अधिपो विश्वभावनः ।
तेजसामपि तेजस्वी द्वादशात्मन्-नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ 15 ॥
நக்ஷத்ர க்3ரஹ தாராணாம் அதி4போ விஶ்வபா4வன: ।
தேஜஸாமபி தேஜஸ்வீ த்3வாத3ஶாத்மன்-னமோஸ்து தே ॥ 15 ॥
He is the Lord of Stars, planets and constellations, who simulates everything in universe. He who is resplendently illuminous with the illuminati of all, the one with twelve forms, I bow to you
नमः पूर्वाय गिरये पश्चिमायाद्रये नमः ।
ज्योतिर्गणानां पतये दिनाधिपतये नमः ॥ 16 ॥
நம: பூர்வாய கி3ரயே பஶ்சிமாயாத்3ரயே நம: ।
ஜ்யோதிர்க3ணானாம் பதயே தி3னாதி4பதயே நம: ॥ 16 ॥
Salutations to the deity of the eastern mountain (indicating the Sun rising), and of the western mountain (where the Sun sets). O the Lord of stellar bodies, Lord of the day, I bow to you
जयाय जयभद्राय हर्यश्वाय नमो नमः ।
नमो नमः सहस्रांशो आदित्याय नमो नमः ॥ 17 ॥
ஜயாய ஜயப4த்3ராய ஹர்யஶ்வாய நமோ நம: ।
நமோ நம: ஸஹஸ்ராம்ஶோ ஆதி3த்யாய நமோ நம: ॥ 17 ॥
O the one who gives victory, the bestower of victory along with protection, the one with green coloured horses, my salutations to you. My salutations to the one with thousand rays, O God Adithya I bow to you.
नम उग्राय वीराय सारङ्गाय नमो नमः ।
नमः पद्मप्रबोधाय मार्ताण्डाय नमो नमः ॥ 18 ॥
நம உக்3ராய வீராய ஸாரங்கா3ய நமோ நம: ।
நம: பத்3மப்ரபோ3தா4ய மார்தாண்டா3ய நமோ நம: ॥ 18 ॥
Salutations to you, who is terrible to wicked, who ably powers in achieving things, the one who travels fast, I bow to you. My salutations to the one who makes the lotuses blossom, who is the Mardanda surya, I bow to you
ब्रह्मेशानाच्युतेशाय सूर्यायादित्य-वर्चसे ।
भास्वते सर्वभक्षाय रौद्राय वपुषे नमः ॥ 19 ॥
ப்3ரஹ்மேஶானாச்யுதேஶாய ஸூர்யாயாதி3த்ய-வர்சஸே ।
பா4ஸ்வதே ஸர்வப4க்ஷாய ரௌத்3ராய வபுஷே நம: ॥ 19 ॥
The one with the form of Brahma , Eeshana (Shiva) and Atchyutha (Vishnu), O the Surya, the one radiating in the Aditya rupa. O the illuminating one, devourer of all, the one with the body like that of Rudra, I bow to you
तमोघ्नाय हिमघ्नाय शत्रुघ्नाया मितात्मने ।
कृतघ्नघ्नाय देवाय ज्योतिषां पतये नमः ॥ 20 ॥
தமோக்4னாய ஹிமக்4னாய ஶத்ருக்4னாயா மிதாத்மனே ।
க்ருதக்4னக்4னாய தே3வாய ஜ்யோதிஷாம் பதயே நம: ॥ 2௦ ॥
He who dispels the darkness, destroyer of snow, remover of the enemies, whose extent is immeasurable. The Lord of all, who is the annihilator of the ungreatful ones, the in charge of the stellar bodies, I bow to you
तप्त चामीकराभाय वह्नये विश्वकर्मणे ।
नमस्तमोऽभि निघ्नाय रुचये लोकसाक्षिणे ॥ 21 ॥
தப்த சாமீகராபா4ய வஹ்னயே விஶ்வகர்மணே ।
நமஸ்தமோபி4 நிக்4னாய ருசயே லோகஸாக்ஷிணே ॥ 21 ॥
The one who has radiance like that of a melted gold, the transcendental fire of divine knowledge, the maker of the universe. I prostrate to you, the remover of darkness, the illuminating one, the witness of all the happenings in the lokas
नाशयत्येष वै भूतं तदेव सृजति प्रभुः ।
पायत्येष तपत्येष वर्षत्येष गभस्तिभिः ॥ 22 ॥
நாஶயத்யேஷ வை பூ4தம் ததே3வ ஸ்ருஜதி ப்ரபு4: ।
பாயத்யேஷ தபத்யேஷ வர்ஷத்யேஷ க3ப4ஸ்திபி4: ॥ 22 ॥
He is the one who destroys the universe at the end and he is the one who reinitiates the creation of the same. The one who with his rays dry’s the water bodies, consumes the water, and brings them back as rains.
एष सुप्तेषु जागर्ति भूतेषु परिनिष्ठितः ।
एष एवाग्निहोत्रं च फलं चैवाग्नि होत्रिणाम् ॥ 23 ॥
ஏஷ ஸுப்தேஷு ஜாக3ர்தி பூ4தேஷு பரினிஷ்டி2த: ।
ஏஷ ஏவாக்3னிஹோத்ரம் ச ப2லம் சைவாக்3னி ஹோத்ரிணாம் ॥ 23 ॥
O the one who lives in all the beings keeping them awake even when they are asleep. Who is Agnihotram himself and also the fruit thereof achieved by the worshippers of the Agnihotram
वेदाश्च क्रतवश्चैव क्रतूनां फलमेव च ।
यानि कृत्यानि लोकेषु सर्व एष रविः प्रभुः ॥ 24 ॥
வேதா3ஶ்ச க்ரதவஶ்சைவ க்ரதூனாம் ப2லமேவ ச ।
யானி க்ருத்யானி லோகேஷு ஸர்வ ஏஷ ரவி: ப்ரபு4: ॥ 24 ॥
He is indeed the Lord in all actions, who is the essence underlying a krathu and the fruit achieved thereof, O the one who is the supreme. Who is indeed a fulfiller of all the works in all the worlds, the supreme Lord Ravi (I bow to you)
ப2லஶ்ருதி:
एन मापत्सु कृच्छ्रेषु कान्तारेषु भयेषु च ।
कीर्तयन् पुरुषः कश्चिन्-नावशीदति राघव ॥ 25 ॥
ஏன மாபத்ஸு க்ருச்ச்2ரேஷு கான்தாரேஷு ப4யேஷு ச ।
கீர்தயன் புருஷ: கஶ்சின்-னாவஶீத3தி ராக4வ ॥ 25 ॥
O Rama the one who recites this hymn will be protected during their difficult situations and times, at the forts, and during the times of fear. Such ones who praise the glory of the Sun God will never be defeated.
पूजयस्वैन मेकाग्रः देवदेवं जगत्पतिम् ।
एतत् त्रिगुणितं जप्त्वा युद्धेषु विजयिष्यसि ॥ 26 ॥
பூஜயஸ்வைன மேகாக்3ர: தே3வதே3வம் ஜக3த்பதிம் ।
ஏதத் த்ரிகு3ணிதம் ஜப்த்வா யுத்3தே4ஷு விஜயிஷ்யஸி ॥ 26 ॥
Devoting with utmost concentration on almighty of the universe, the Lord of all the Lords. And reciting this divine hymn three times a day one will come out victorious in the battle
अस्मिन् क्षणे महाबाहो रावणं त्वं वधिष्यसि ।
एवमुक्त्वा तदागस्त्यो जगाम च यथागतम् ॥ 27 ॥
அஸ்மின் க்ஷணே மஹாபா3ஹோ ராவணம் த்வம் வதி4ஷ்யஸி ।
ஏவமுக்த்வா ததா3க3ஸ்த்யோ ஜகா3ம ச யதா2க3தம் ॥ 27 ॥
Within this second, O’ Rama, Mahabaahu (one with great shoulders) you will destroy Ravana. Thus spoke sage Agastya and then leaves his way
एतच्छ्रुत्वा महातेजाः नष्टशोकोऽभवत्-तदा ।
धारयामास सुप्रीतः राघवः प्रयतात्मवान् ॥ 28 ॥
ஏதச்ச்2ருத்வா மஹாதேஜா: நஷ்டஶோகோப4வத்-ததா3 ।
தா4ரயாமாஸ ஸுப்ரீத: ராக4வ: ப்ரயதாத்மவான் ॥ 28 ॥
Listening to this hymn, Lord Rama with great radiance comes out of the deep sorrow. And then invokes this mantra with great courage
आदित्यं प्रेक्ष्य जप्त्वा तु परं हर्षमवाप्तवान् ।
त्रिराचम्य शुचिर्भूत्वा धनुरादाय वीर्यवान् ॥ 29 ॥
ஆதி3த்யம் ப்ரேக்ஷ்ய ஜப்த்வா து பரம் ஹர்ஷமவாப்தவான் ।
த்ரிராசம்ய ஶுசிர்பூ4த்வா த4னுராதா3ய வீர்யவான் ॥ 29 ॥
Lord Rama, on seeing Aditya Bhagavan and obtaining his blessing feels very happy. Later on doing the Achamanam three times thus becomes pure and then picks his mighty bow
रावणं प्रेक्ष्य हृष्टात्मा युद्धाय समुपागमत् ।
सर्वयत्नेन महता वधे तस्य धृतोऽभवत् ॥ 30 ॥
ராவணம் ப்ரேக்ஷ்ய ஹ்ருஷ்டாத்மா யுத்3தா4ய ஸமுபாக3மத் ।
ஸர்வயத்னேன மஹதா வதே4 தஸ்ய த்4ருதோப4வத் ॥ 3௦ ॥
On seeing Ravana coming to fight, Rama then feels calm and smiles peacefully
With all his efforts Rama finally determines to kill him (Ravana)
अध रविरवदन्-निरीक्ष्य रामं मुदितमनाः परमं प्रहृष्यमाणः ।
निशिचरपति सङ्क्षयं विदित्वा सुरगण मध्यगतो वचस्त्वरेति ॥ 31 ॥
அத4 ரவிரவத3ன்-னிரீக்ஷ்ய ராமம் முதி3தமனா: பரமம் ப்ரஹ்ருஷ்யமாண: ।
நிஶிசரபதி ஸங்க்ஷயம் விதி3த்வா ஸுரக3ண மத்4யக3தோ வசஸ்த்வரேதி ॥ 31 ॥
After that (on seeing the determination of Rama), Lord Ravi with a delighted heart became highly astonished
Further on understanding that the Ravanas future is coming to an end, Lord Surya stood in the middle of the Deva ganas and insisted Rama to be quick.
Bhano bhaskara marthanda
Chanda rasmai divakara
Ayur arogyam aiswaryam
Vidhyam dehi namosthuthe;
Oh God of gods,
Who is source of light,
Who makes the day,
Who removes darkness,
Who has fearful rays,
And who is the creator of the morn,
Please give me long life,
Health, wealth, knowledge
And I salute you.
